Nicola Kerr Counselling
Our first meeting is an assessment in which we will consider the issues to be explored. An assessment gives us the opportunity to consider whether we can work together in a collaborative way. If we choose to go forward we will agree an estimated time scale. Six to twelve sessions may be adequate to work through a particular issue but sometimes longer term work is indicated. If I feel it more appropriate for a referral to be made elsewhere I will discuss this with you.

For potential clients who are unfamiliar to counselling, or unsure if it is the right way forward, I can offer a 30 minute consultation at a reduced rate of £20. This gives the opportunity to discuss the situation in context and answer any questions or queries.

It is vital to find the right therapist as research has shown us that the most important factor for a positive outcome in therapy is the relationship itself between the counsellor and the client. In addition to technical competence and in order to facilitate the therapeutic process, it is extremely important that a relationship of trust, understanding and acceptance between counsellor and client, is developed. It is therefore a collaborative process in which we actively participate together in order to achieve meaningful change.
